Towing / Driving auto transmision question for 2009 F150
Hello, I am new to the forum.
I am considering a new 2009 or 2010 F150 and want to use it for everyday driving, and towing.
Ford has replaced the older 4 speed, with a new 6 speed transmission I see.
Is the transmission durable enough to tow with?
Is the added gears spread out across the range. i.e. is first gear lower, and sixth gear taller than the older 4 speed I have now.
Yes, I will be getting the 5.4 and the max tow package as Ford has named it.
But its unclear what exactly is in the Max tow pkg to.
Is it differential ratio taller, and bigger mirrors, and brake controller?

CAN ORDER TOW MIRRIORS IF MAX TOW DOES COME WITH__*****__
CAN ORDER CONTROLLER IF MAX TOW DOES NOT COME WITH___*****___
Now you will get a bunch of differant answers and starts a major war lol,but it depends what your going to tow in weight as to what gear ratio ect you need. I put my own telescoping mirriors and controller on. If your going to tow very little the 6 speed will yeild good milage empty, my 5.4 3 valve with the 6 speed is running 22 hwy-18 city. 12 towing 10K and 3:31 gears

I finally figured out to effectively use the search button, and found all the information I needed.
This forum is so large it is hard for a new fellow to find the information, even if its right in front of his nose.
In case others read this thread, wondering the same question I had.
The newer 6 speed offers a much lower 1 st gear, and a nearly identically top gear.
Yes it is a top gear of 0.69 as opposed to 0.7 in the older 4 speed automatics, but I cannot see it making much of a difference to the RPM at HWY cruising speeds, just more pulling away power in stop and go driving, especially towing a load.
I am fortunate to have found these forums, and look forward to my newer F 150.

Here is from another site.
The new six-speed transmission compensates for the engine’s shortcomings by reaching deep into its power band, smoothing out acceleration and delivering peak torque 250 rpm sooner than it did last year.
First gear is a deep 4.17:1, versus 2.84 in the 2008 model, so you’ll feel the truck pull away aggressively at wide-open throttle and confidently during modest, low-speed takeoffs. Smaller steps between the gears (4.17, 2.34, 1.52, 1.14, .87 and .69 in the new six-speed, versus 2.84, 1.55, 1.00 and .70 in the old four-speed) reduced the perception of the 5.4-liter becoming bogged down after each upshift by placing the engine mill into its optimal power band sooner.
