Could be a number of things, timing too far advanced, heat soak, corroded or undersized cables, bad ground, weak battery, etc.

If you're running headers without a heat shield on your starter then heat soak can be an issue though i've never had a problem with heat soak running headers w/o a heat shield on my 390 for over 7 years now, but it does occur.

A weak, bad, corroded, rusty or greasy ground connection may be ok when the engine/starter is cold but can cause hard starting issues when the engine/starter is hot.

How much initial advance are you running? any starter kick back when the engine's hot?

Giving the engine about 1/4 throttle on the gas pedal when starting a hot engine helps too.

On my 460's i run welding cable for the battery connections and a good cable for the starter connection and it definetely makes a difference. The small wires in the welding cable carry the current very well and haven't had problems since then. It's 00 cable if I remember correctly.

You may want to back off on your timing a few degrees, it will help your hot start issue.

Which ignition are you running in this? The factory ignition is designed to back the timing down during a start to prevent this hot start issue. It is also possible that you have an advance in the dizzy that is not working properly. A stuck dizzy can create some problems such as you describe.
Check timing and advance lately?
I used to run a timing control from MSD before I went ot a mini starter.
