93 Bronco intermittent ignition/won't start

1993 Bronco 5.0 with E4OD transmission. It has an intermittent starting problem. Once in awhile it doesn't start. It cranks over just fine but doesn't even try to start. Try it a few times and it starts fine and runs fine. This problem is getting more frequent and you have to try it more times before it starts. I can hear the fuel pump run. The last time it did this I cranked it and it had no spark. On the 4th try it had spark and started. This 93 does not have the ignition module on the side of the distributor as does my 91 Bronco, just a blank spot on the side of the distributor. Where is the ignition module located on this model?

Driver side fender, below cruise control, set in a heat sink.

Thanks. I found out where it was but I didn't know the difference in color. Mine is gray just like the ones on my other Bronco's that have it on the side of the distributor. So if there is a difference in the wiring harness I should make sure I get another gray one, correct? Does this sound like it's the problem that I have? I don't think it's the coil as all the ones I've had that went bad were not intermittent, they just go bad.

Pull codes before you replace anything. No point in spending the money on something that MIGHT be the problem.

The codes should show in Continuous Memory (CM). I read Ford started changing to the computer controlled module in the early 90's. I noticed on mine the black one does not get very hot after an hour. I can keep my finger on it. When I tried the grey, like a grill, two seconds with a finger on it is all you want to do. However, ICM and distributor stator problem usually fail with increased heat, not start up. Once hot, they may not start, but usually fine early morning until they get worse.

I'll try to check the codes later today. It didn't matter about the heat. Sometimes it wouldn't start hot, sometimes when cold. When it didn't start the other day it had no spark. On the 4th try it did have spark and started. No check engine light has been on at any time. What else would cause the intermittent spark/no spark problem?

Check, disassemble, clean, reassemble grounds. Fender next to battery, firewall to engine, battery to fender to frame to starter, fender next to where you pull codes. CM code may be there even if you did not notice a CEL on. Nobody at Ford Dealer, Green auto, etc. knew of a color difference in the ICM. I bought two different new Motorcraft grey ones that were supposed to work and did not so let me know if you need one cheap. I'm running one out of a V6 Taurus off eBay and carry a spare from a S6 delivery truck.
