Need a code reader/scanner recommendation

I currently own a 1999 F350 with a 6.8L and a 2004 V10 Excursion.
My husband has had to replace a few coil packs recently. He does all the repairs on our vehicles and becomes very frustrated when he can't figure out which cylinder is miss firing. Often times the code says random miss fire. I need to purchase a code reader/scanner that will specify which cylinder is miss firing. I was hoping there is an affordable model that is under $400. Please advise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Auto enginuity is also what I have loaded on my laptop, works great for missfires let alone everything else, you might be able to get it cheaper, shop around a little.
It is a little mind boggling if your not familiar with all the new up to date things on these truck because it gives a lot of information and has the ability to do lots of stuff.
It required me to do some internet reading to understand what I needed to understand. Tech service also helped me out here and there.

So let me get this right...if my #2 coil pack takes a crap it will tell me #2 cylinder miss fire? Sorry for all the questions. Sounds like this is more than a hand held scan tool. It is something I would have to install and use my laptop. If so, is there any other hardware or software needed? Thank you for all your patience, help and advice.

I notice that you don’t list a diesel in your sig, so is it NOT diesel specific?
<O</O
Will it read the codes on her V10 and our 08 MKX?

It will tell you percent missfires per cylinder with a lot of other information. When you buy the bundle it comes with all you need, there are different stuff you can pick like wireless or cable, ect.

Here is the link.

I am another fan of the AE software scanner. I also own the V-10, and with the ford bundle added the scanner is fully capable to read and asses all the codes. Also all the abs systems, and the pats programming that is on the X's.
Just need a laptop to down load the softeware into, and use with the supplied cable that attatches to the truck.
