6.9 blowing white smoke and stalling out HELP
Hi. I just bought this truck it is an 85 6.9. I bought it mostly for parts for my other 85 gasser. I also wanted to give diesel a shot. So far not impressed, but thats just because after I got it home it decided it didn't want to run I could get it up about 55 then it would just lose all power and stall out. Now i can't get it to Idle in my driveway longer than about 5 minutes then it just starts chugging and blowing whitesmoke and it just dies then it starts very hard. I siphoned all of the old fuel I could out of the tank and put in diesel Kleen. Also changed the filter and put in diesel kleen. The guy i bought it from had replaced the fuel pump and one injector. Also the rear fuel tank has been removed but the dash selector has to be on rear tank. Could there be a prob. there I need to look at? Truck had sat in barn for about 2 yrs. I only pd. $800.00 and it has plenty of parts for my other truck so I'll recover my money if I can't fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like you could possibly have a stopped up/busted diaphram on a CDR valve. since mine is a 91 and it's located behind the breather box i'm not sure where it's located on the 6.9s. i'll bet Dave Sponaugle has pictures..... and they won't be greasy and grimy like mine would be if i dared take pics. LOL

If it smells like diesel, I am going to guess either you are sucking air or you have injectors sticking open leaking fuel.
6.9 CDR is the same place it is on the NA 7.3, but with my turbo mine is on the rocker cover.
Do have a non greasy picture though, just not installed in the NA location.
