Intake Temps

So after all the talk about the Tymar, 6637 mod and all the other day, I decided to see what kind of temperature drops I would see. My Predator has some very cool monitoring on it and noticed awhile back that it had an "intake temp". Ambient temp was 103*. I remembered I wanted to check this after driving for about an hour, and plugged it in. The intake temp was reading 168* while sitting at a stop light for about 20secs. After I started to take off, I watched it drop to 142* in about another 20 secs @ a top speed of 35MPH. (another stop sign) The temp was climbing back up and reached 162* before I started to take off again, and quickly started to drop and reached 145* before I had to stop. I started this thread so I could post my findings as I log more, under different circumstances.

Pretty cool feature, when I read this post I was thinking of those intake fender cutouts the new 08's and above have, they are hooked up to the intake right??? Never been close to one to look...Sorry Jeff, just thinking of cooler temps..

Yes they are. Just noticed an after market intake kit for one, and that's where it was sucking from. I can't wait to see what the intake temp reads while on the road doing over double nickels.

I liked that idea from the start but wasn't sure, doesn't get direct rain to it and plenty of cooler air, would like to do something like that, just plumb some flexable intake tube to the airbox. Do you have a link or info on that intake kit??

Subscribing, even though I now have an AIS, I am interested in the findings.

It was in an issue of DP. I'll go see if I can find it.

subscribing as well...

It'd be nice to have some side by side comparisons using with the only different variable being different filter setups. And then see if there are any differences in intake manifold temps.

Good thread Jeff!!

Dan, I'm curious to see what you might get a idle and when your moving. It's under the data streaming, fuel

subscribing, good topic, I like the volant 6.4 intake idea, would like to have the filtering ability of the AIS and the cool air volume of the above mentioned.

I've been watching mine with the Terminator Scan Gauge. Mine NEVER get that hot!! Most I see is 140s. Tooling down the highway at 70ish once up to temp it runs in the 120s, occasionally gets in the 130s if I slow down, like in town or whatever.

I have been looking at trying out my buddy's 6.0 intake to see if it makes enough difference to warrant switching to it permanently. I'll pursue this some more and add my findings here as well.

This is a good excuse to get the truck out and drive it around for a few days.
I'll let you know.

Too bad you couldn't get ahold of a modded stock airbox and an AFE system too to see what the difference was between the 4!!!
