kellens, just wondering if you had an update on the tranny swap. I am looking into doing it myself.

Well its been a while but I still don't have a trans. The one from the f superduty turned out to be an s5-42 even though the guys craigslist ad said it was an s5-47. Its too bad because i could have got it for $350. So i have been searching like crazy and not finding anythig. Car-part.com has some but the few i found near me are rediculously expensive (1800 for a rebuilt unit). Finally i found someone parting a out a truck that they rolled that im going to look at this weekend. Supposedly the trans was rebuilt only 400 miles before they rolled the truck. The guy wants 1000 for it. He said i can have the transfercase and clutch/flywheel/pressure plate as well for another 200. So i may do that but hopefully at least i will be getting the trans and maybe i can talk the guy down on the price.

I've got one in a truck in Oregon... Don't know if you'd want to drive up that far for it. I'd sell it for cheap. With transfer case. You'd still need to buy a clutch and flywheel for your '97 because it's from a '88 7.3

The trans will bolt up to yours but the clutch/flywheel won't. If you have any questions send me a PM

I'm going a different route. Still doing a 4x4 swap, but sticking with the E4OD...

I've got a thread about this subject over here, so anybody who's interested can check it out. I've got the transmission, so I'm going to be posting lots of pictures.

I don't mean to hijack this thread or anything, but there is some good reading over there on the subject, and there will be more to come.
