Tune Up

What do people do for tune ups for these trucks? I just picked up a 1997 f150 super cab with the 5.4 and 4x4. it is am automatic and i believe has the 4r100 transmission or what ever it is called. What should i do to get in into better running condition.
I also have a 1997 f150 regular cab with the 4.6 and the other automatic transmission and 4x4. what should be done as far as a tune up goes for that one?
both have the shift on the fly electronic 4x4 switch on the dash.

The tune up consists of replacing the spark plugs with Motorcraft or Autolite double platinum plus, use only Motorcraft wires, check all belts and hoses, clean the MAF with a special cleaner, clean or replace the air filter, fuel filter, and any other filters you might have. The transmission fluid should be replaced periodically, along with its internal filter if equipped. The cooling system should be flushed at least every other year, helps ensure corrosion doesn't get started and helps the hoses last longer.

I highly reccomend the Magnacore wires from Apex performance. They are MUCH nicer than the stock wire. The stock wires are the next best-don't get the shelf brand from the parts houses, evan the "high performance wires (accel etc.) are pretty cheap.

+1 Bear river. Do all the fluids. There is a drain plug in some of the early transmissions torque converter. Drain the pan and torque converter and refill(it will be about 14 qts).

Don't forget the transfer case fluid (Dextron trans fluid)

I do everything on a new to me vehicle and start as if it is day 1. Then follow your own schedule whatever that may be.

With those miles, ALL fluids should be replaced unless you have proof that they have been replaced recently. Fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve. Clean MAF, throttle body, and egr ports. Do all this and ck everything else and it will be like driving a new truck!!

Plugs and coils make for a good tune-up on the COP systems.

Our new Ford COP’s, the Sultans of Spark(S.O.S.), have
been designed with both durability and performance in mind.
Please see them at:
http://www.performancedistributors.com/soscoils.htm
Quality was the main feature we stressed when we went to the
drawing board on these coils.
By the way, for those of you who only need to replace a defective coil,
our SOS Coils are available separately.
