Help with specs of 1956 Ford C600.....
Hi,
I am new here and I was hoping someone could direct me to the right place to ask a question of find info on the 1956 Ford C600.
I would like to know if multiple engine sizes were available during that year for the c600 and what exactly is the difference between c500, c600, c700, c750, c800, c850, c900?
From what I could find, 1956 saw the intro of the Lincoln Y-Block 368 V8, but would this engine be standard in a 56 C600? Also, I would like some info about the Ford-O-Matic transmission available in the 1948-1957 C-series Trucks. I hope I posted this in the right place.
Thanks.
Erich

RE: Looking for entry level cabover in restorable condition....
Hi,
I spoke a man by the name of Bill Birch in Minnesota that has at least one restorable entry-level Ford Cabover. It's a 1956 C600. Don't know what he wants for it, it's a bit too far away from me. Email me and I can give you the contact info.
It would be nice to see some scans of the brochures you have.
I wrote down the dat plate info on the one I have today.
It would be nice to know what size engine it has in it.
The production code is: 28B54-315
Max Gross weight = 17,000lbs
Cert. Net HP 143 @400rpm
I heard it should have a 292 in it.
Someone switched out the 4SYN manual to an automatic at some point, don't know what year swap was made but I assume it's a ford-o-matic or cruise-o-matic.
Also, I can't identify the type of carb on it. I can post a shot of the engine compartment, maybe someone can help. How do I put an attachment in a post?
I have the serial number too. Is there a way to read/decode it?
What about the production code?
I think it has hydraulic brakes, not air brakes as their is no air tank and there is some kind of radiator/cooler under the stakebed on the driver's side. I guess that is a cooler for the brake fluid?
I will check out the site.
Thanks,
Erich

here's how to post pics:

I use photobucket to host mine and link 'em. pretty easy.
could that cooler be a transmission cooler...?
thanks for the lead. I'll shoot you an e-mail. So far I've kind of steered clear of northern trucks from the rust belt. pretty spoiled here with midwest/minimally rusted vehicles. I have a couple leads local. One truck I could fetch today for $500 but I've seen dried corn cobs smoother than it... I've been huntin so long, I'm not sure I'll know how to act when I bring one home.
