5.4 DOHC Navigator Engine
Just a couple of quick questions folks.
I'm looking at a 2000 Navigator thats for sale for a reasonable $1500. It has an engine problem that I think was mis-diagnosed. Supposedly a broken cam chain. The pass side Cam/valve cover is partially removed and both chains are tight. Therefore I don't buy that diagnosis. My thoughts are more likely that the chain tensioner allowed the chain to jump timing, possibly causing internal damage.
Has anyone here had a similar problem? If so was there any interal damage? Is the 5.4 DOHC an intreferance type engine.
Any help/info from a Ford service tech would be greatly appreciated.

the modular engines are interference motors however being a tooth or 2 off won't hurt as far as it having a broken chain what do the driver sides chains look like don't forget there are 4 on this motor, I'd turn the motor over by hand see what happens, but if the chain broke(never seen this) it would of bent some valves but the 5.4 dohc is a great motor as long as the truck is in good shape go for it
