Programmer - Yes or No - Help please

Being an old fart, I am a little concerned about going outside the box. I have been considering the purchase and install of an Edge Programmer (seems to be the one most recommended by you guys). My motivation is based on having oversize tires (acceleration and shift point issues, DTC P2106).
Here is some info on the truck:
"04 F150 XLT 5.4 4X4: Purchased used - 18 months ago with 60,000 miles
128,000 miles - impeccably maintained, runs, drives and looks new.
275 60 R20s. New Tranny @ 80K, Rebuilt Rear LSD @ 110K.
MODS - nothing major: Ford authorized Programmable PCM - 4U7A-12A650-AAA (installed by previous owner) I know nothing about this. 20" wheels with Michilen Road Tires. Lots of sound stuff - XM, etc. K & N filter. 100w power inverter. Hard wired GPS and Radar Detector. Blacked out Headlights. 2-1/2" Topgun strut extensions and rear add-a-leafs.
Any input would be appreciated - Question - Is The PCM mentioned above, compatable? This Stuff is over my head.

I would go with the SCT X3. Get the custom tunes. I got 87 economy, 91 tow, and 91 performance. There are others to chose from. But this really woke my truck up and helps my truck with keeping good gas mileage with bigger tires. I would talk to mike from 5 star tunning

Being and old fart myself I went with the edge evolution. Plug and play looks good on the dash also.I have no regrets. If I want some power I put it on level 3 if not I just stay on level 2 no regrets. Just like a new truck. You do have pep on level 2. You will get better throttle response.

Edge sounds like the winner for your purposes.
1. Just plug and play
2. 3 easy to use/figure out power levels
3. easiest to use for those wanting the extra performance, but not the hassle of guesswork

it will talk to your PCM. the "4U7A-12A650-AAA" you mention is just the coding that lets other Ford Techs know what revision is installed.

The Edge or any other tuner can/will talk to your PCM without any issue.

Thanks to all for the input. My plan is to order today. I spent a good bit of time shopping online yesterday, didn't get much help over the phone though (Sunday).

If you want a good product with outstanding customer service 24/7, Call Mike at 5 STAR TUNING and get an X3 SCT tuner. Very reasonably priced, lots of options, and what a difference in performance and fuel mileage. Go to his website at 5 STAR TUNING.

First of all, Mike @ 5-Star Tuning, thanks for your input on the phone. Yeah, the edge was already ordered, but I will certainly work with you in the future. While waiting for the edge to arrive, I took the truck down and had "true" dual flowmasters installed - wow. The edge arrived yesterday and -- how cool. The next project is CAI. I know I saw a thread where Tylus recommended a certain brand. Since he obviously has more knowledge in his little finger than I do on my entire 360 acres, I hope he sees this reply and "Posts Up".

Thanks to all,
