diagram of HPOP- anyone help?

OK here's the HPOP diagram from the 6.0 bible. According to the uncooperative jerk at the warranty company the HPOP is part of the fuel system. Technically I can't argue but we all know better. What I need is a diagram that will show the claims dispute dept. that it IS an oil pump and therefore should be covered, so I'm not out a boatload of money. If I copy this, it says at the top Fuel Management system, which doesn't help my cause. Anybody have something different that might be of help that I can copy and include in the claim dispute? Thanks in advance- Tim

HPOP = High Pressure Oil Pump

Doesn't get any simpler than that. Is your battery part of the fuel system? Injectors and the fuel pump require electric.

Looks like he is splitting hairs on his theory.

Thats exactly what I told the jerk, you're splitting hairs. It's an OIL PUMP not a fuel pump. Unfortunately I will prob lose this one as it is part of the fuel system- technically. And that is all the loophole they need I guess. We'll see what happens with the dispute, they are supposed to be an independent party. Thanks for the support, Max, it makes me feel a little better knowing you and Bismic agree with me.

I am assuming that this is an a/m warranty policy and not an ESP?

There is no arguing that the HPOP is a oil pump, but even Ford considers it part of the fuel system. When you bring the part up in the Ford system it is listed as "Pump Asy - Fuel Injection" and the R & I instructions for it come out of the "Fuel Charging and Controls" section of the workshop manual.

I tried to come up with something that would help, but in the end failed. If it were the LPOP that would be a different story...

I was thinking that the approach to take may be to focus on the "route cause" of the failure. This is how most companies determine if they are responsible for coverage (or not). I haven't seen a lot posted on why these pumps fail, but IIRC I have seen a few related to the pump "ingesting" a foreign object that was in the oil or something restricting oil flow from the LPOP and starving the HPOP. If this were the case, it is back to being oil related. (I believe Joe Blow asked in another thread what causes these pumps to fail.) I may be way off base on this angle, but maybe you can get some help from it. I will do some digging and maybe others will jump in on this approach. I am with you, thinking it should be covered, but the way the insurance company is behaving you seem to have a huge uphill battle on your hands. Again, I am very sorry to see you (or anyone for that matter) having to go through this "painful experience". Don't give up yet Tim. Pull your oil filter and inspect it for damage or deformation. Have your mechanic look carefully for any foreign material in the reservoir (and screen) the feeds the suction of the HPOP.

An acquaintance had one go out and they found the screen in the hpop sump was plugged with crap apparently from assembly or wherever. The engine had never been apart until this failure. Have the mechanic inspect the sump screen if there is one. I am going by what he told me.

Nice post 69cj! I know I have some material showing pics of that screen, but I just can't find it. Oh well, persistence compensates as ability fades ....... (IOW, I will keep looking)

Great suggestions guys! I'll have to ask the SM tomorrow as I just got off the phone with him and it won't be done today. I did ask him if he could check any manuals or documents where it might show something that doesn't say Fuel Management in it that I could copy. He said he'd see what he could dig up. Thanks for all your help!
I tried to rep all you guys but the only one I could was PowerstrokeHD. You guys are all awesome! Oh yeah, I recall the SM saying in one of the first conversations that the HPOP was obviously worn out. Maybe I'll get to check it out and learn something from this if he still has it, which I believe he did when I spoke to him yest.

One other question, if the hi press. oil pump is part of the fuel system wouldn't it also by default come under emmisions? Might be splitting hairs but seems like they are also.

What is the "Exact" wording he was quoting to deny you warranty?
