Talking Engine Swap -- Whats the deal?

I have a 2005 f150 4x4 supercrew with a 4.6L

I have an engine out of a 2008 f150 supercab 5.4L

Is this a possible swap? how much do I need to change?
I will be changing the transmission too.

is this going to be a headache?

thanks

do you have the rest of that truck?

and are both trucks 4x2 or 4x4?

there are different vacuum and electrical stuff depending on the year, and the drivetrain

then you got exhaust to figure out...motor mounts

hope you have the original truck to source parts from...especially the PCM and the wiring harness for that 5.4. The PCM for your 4.6 won't work with the 5.4 PCM. and you'll have to tell the CAN-BUS OBD-II system in your truck to accept the 5.4 parameters

you are kind of in no-mans land. I haven't heard of anybody else doing this swap yet.

mechanically, it will pretty much all just bolt up....it's the electrical stuff that'll screw you IMO

you should probably drop into the motor section of FTE and ask around in there. We can get you some general info in here...but you need the expert info from Techs and those who have gone before.

Is there something wrong with the 4.6 in your 05? If not I wouldn't mess with it. To hard for the small power gains you would get. A lot of people don't give the 4.6 credit it is a great dependable motor that puts out respectable power especially in the 04+ where they went to a 3 valve heads. JMO maybe I am biased because I have one and couldn't afford the 5.4 when I bought my truck.

Yeah problem with the 4.6 is that it has over 150k on it... 5.4 has 5000k

I thought the 09 5.4L has something like 310HP or 320HP?

yes, for the 5.4...I was referencing the 4.6 3v motor that was introduced in the 2009 lineup

From what I've read, swapping engines on these trucks is a bit of a hassle.
Something about taking the cab off to pull the motor. Just what i've heard, so....
