serp belt on a V10
Hey guys, I had a V10 in 99 for about a year and a half but never had to do anything other than oil changes so I dont know all the ins and outs on them. My friends V10 just lost the serp belt and since he isnt mechanically inclined he has asked me to put a new one on. My question is if there are any tips or tricks to doing a belt on one. I havent even looked at it yet so maybe this is a really stupid question. He lives 30 minutes from me and doesnt have any tools so I need to be sure I have everything I need before I head out.
Does it have a spring loaded idler pulley?
Do I need to remove anything like a fan or shroud in order to install a belt?
Any special tools? Pry bar?
I appreciate all the help!!!!

Only thing you really need is a 1/2 breaker bar or a 1/2 ratchet with a cheater bar. Take the old belt off then feed the new one down thru the slot between the tensioner pulley and the pivot of the tensioner. After that just follow the diagram under the hood on how the belt wraps around what and your good to go.
While you're in there you might want to replace the idler pulley and the tensioner arm/pulley assembly itself. They tend to go bad and squeak. You'll need a few MM sockets (I think 12 and 13 but not sure) and a ratchet but that's about it.

A few posts previous to this one, I just did mine - BEFORE it broke.
Along with the 1/2 breaker bar, a long one is best, make sure your friend hangs around and holds the bar - but even better yet, and maybe a finger saver, tie it off to a bracket with a piece of rope then when your buddy needs to scratch his nose he doesn't slack off while you are sliding it on the bottom pulley. It's a fairly easy job - you just need a few cuss words as you peel the skin off of a knuckle

Thanks for all the info guys. Got it done today in about 10 minutes working solo. I just routed everything except the Alternator until I had my ratchet on the tensioner.
Again, thanks to all you guys!!!! Felt a lot better knowing what I was looking at before I got there. Turned out to be really simple thanks to FTE!!!
