M5OD-R2 (2wd trans parts usable for 4x4?)

Hello all, I have a 94 Bronco 5.0 5 Speed. She is still running fine but I've noticed a whine in the transmission and a certain grubble when i take off on first. This and other observations have lead me to think she has gone tired. While looking for solutions I ran into a dilemma and I'd like some helpful opinions.

I found an M5OD R2. Unlike mine, it has absolutely no play whatsoever on either the input or output shafts. She's a bit dirty but I don't care. Here is the problem - Its a 2wd trans. So here is where I ran into some questions.

I know that the output shafts are different. That being said, can i swap in the output shaft from my 4x4 trans into the 2wd trans and use EVERYTHING else from the 2wd trans. In other words, can I put the mint gears from the 2wd trans on the 4x4 output shaft and will it fit in there.

I know this will require a complete teardown. But my other option is to spend $500 on a full rebuild kit and rebuild my 4x4 trans (the gears are chewed up and the synchros are dam near gone).

So if anyone could let me know if its possible to swap output shafts and gears to create a brand used prestine trans, it would really help and I'd appreciate it.

Best

IMO, take the best of BOTH and make one fresh one.

A reman is only about $900. I am going that way when I need one due to time constraints. I rebuilt my S5-47 in the living room and most of my autos as the cost for them is absurd.

so I ended up getting new ball needle roller bearings, seals, and synchros. Turns out the only difference is how many teeth the reverse gear has (different output shafts, same countershafts)
