Anybody out there own a Taurus?
I am looking at buying one an just curious if any one out there has one. I am looking at a 07 with the 3.0. Are these good relaible cars? I have had a couple off Grand Marquies that have been great cars an refuse to die. Not familiar with Tauruses however. Thanks for the help guys.

I have an `04 SEL that has 95,000 on it and it starts and drives like it was new. Here's a site that has more info on the Ford Taurus, Taurus/Taurus Wagon - Automotive Forums .com Car Chat.

We have 2 currently An '05 and a '07. these are our latest having had a '89 and a '96. The '96 is currently being driven by my Sis-in-law in Fl. The '89 started and drove for a few weeks after having been flooded 32" deep by Hurricane Katrina. It had a CV axle give out and we just didn't want to put any more money into it. The '05 and '07 are great cars that get 25 mpg around town and 29 mpg on highway trips fully loaded and running 75-80 mph. Safety of the Taurus is terrific. The '05 was involved in a collision and my daughter and I were unscratched even though the impact speed was over 40 mph. Another great thing is that there are so many of the Generation 4 Tauruses it results in parts that are readily available in both the OEM and aftermarket supply chain. You may want to check out the Taurus Car Club of America web site here; Taurus Car Club of America I am Shorebird over there also.

Our 99 SEL just turned over 150,000 and still runs like a top! It needs shocks and struts and a couple rust spots fixed, but the wife drives it every day and dosent have any complaints. Bought it with 80k and its been nothing but relaible. Its starting to leak tranny fluid around the pass axelshaft so changing the seals gonna be on my to do list soon. Fuel economy is righ around 20-25mpg depending on whos driving lol! I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. When this one is retired we are probably gonna buy a new one to replace it. Great car!

I guess you never worked at a dealership replacing the transmissions or the 3.8L engines ... The Taurus deserves it's bad reputation.
They have such a rich reputation, not even used car dealers on the lower rung of selling or lending on Craigslist will touch them:
"Buy A Car, Not A Program, No Ford Taurus's - $999"
Buy A Car, Not A Program, No Ford Taurus's
If you want to know the best year Taurus to buy, check Consumer Report's. The black bullets are accurate.
I would not pay more then $1000 for any year Taurus, jmho.
One thing I would suggest checking out is the A/C system and heater. I have not worked on a 2007, but, the earlier years ( < 2004) when replacing the heater core it requires taking out the whole dash board and recharging the A/C system.
> I have had a couple off Grand Marquies
Comparing a RWD car to a FWD car is like comparing apples to oranges, especially when you want to do something simple as replace the alternator, power steering pump, or bumper.
Or walk away from an accident when you get hit by one of the most popular selling vehicles on the road, a F-150.

The car that my work provides for me is a '02 Taurus. I've been driving it since '05 when it only had 35K on it. Now it has 133K and the only major thing that was done was a new fuel pump a few weeks ago. I pound it like a rented mule.
My boss usually sells the company vehicles at 100K, but this one has been so trouble free we are going to keep it. If and when my boss decides to sell it I may buy it for a winter ride.
