That sounds like a winner, I know a few guys who are looking for a way to upgrade to p/s on their highboy. I am sure there's plenty of others who could benefit from a low buck steering swap on these great old rigs... that was the main reason mine went bye bye when I got a chance to get my hands on a 78 "low boy". I'll bet there are a lot of highboys put out to pasture because of the steering. Also, maybe you could find out if he used the bendix or fomoco steering box.

Guy if having the pittman arm reversed maybe a 80s up gear might mod in. I believe that is when they swapped the side of the front axle that it is on. I believe the gear box is the same in appearance, but the threads on the worm gear are left hand where the 79 & down are right for reverse action.

Here is my highboy crew cab frame with the 70s 2 wheel drive box. I has a 1/2" mount with tubular spacers. The drag link is made of tie rod ends and threaded for adjustment.

It works but it does flex the rail and works the bolts loose. I have grade eights in it now but it had grade fives from the PO and the box popped of the frame turning in to a drive. The grade wights ahve cured that but do need to be tightened every so often.
