Remote oil filter??
Have had this thought for some time about adding a remote oil filter on my 4x4. Have an 04 Screw, 4x4 Lariat with 5.4. Wondering if I found one of the older F150's with the remote filter mounted on the left inner front fender, if the same setup would cross over to my truck??? Anyone know or tried to swap one over??? I posted this for another thread but it can apply to this one also. This is a double filter remote installation kit.
Here is a solution to your situation. The thread for the filter is M22 x 1.5mm. I've been looking for filters with that spec. and keep coming up with the same size as the FL-820S. BUT there is a solution. You can install a double filter system. Summit has them. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Currently $59.95.

yeah they really do put them on tight at the factory makeing it a pain to get them off for the first time
i've seen the kits for as little as 35 bucks but do remmber that the fl820 filter fits the 4.6 5.4 6.8 and the 4.0 v-6 so a kit from any of those vehicles will fit
and to top it all off the 09 still have it in the same spot and they made the fan shroud larger

I have the oil filter wrench that simply fits over the notches on the end of the filter that connects to a 3/8 inch ratchet. I use an extension with a swivel and the ratchet. Takes about a minute to loosen the filter and then I complete the removal by hand. I don't have to jack up my truck (and I'm fat). I use the Motorcraft filter.

Thanks to all for their input. Osbornk, that is the way I do mine, but at the age of 61, I am not as nimble as I used to was. Still enjoy doing my own wrenching and it saves $$$$. Still no one that has replied to my original question. It was: if I could find an older F150 with the remote filter, would it fit my truck? Anyone done it?
Lets add another piece to this thread. Where would you mount the filter? Under the hood, where there does not seem to be much room. Inside front fender? Back on the frame somewhere? Looks like you get from 24-30 inches of tubing with the kits I have researched. The location of the tubing and filter have to be out of the way from getting caught by short alders that I inevitably drive over when hunting many of the logging roads in WA. Any thoughts out there? Jim

i was goning to mount mine on the driver side frame rail up high leaveing the bottom off the filter hang down
and if i remmber right that the older f150 that came with a remote oil filter had it on the drive side frame rail but it was in the wheel well and was side mounted
but i do thing their is some good thing to keep in mine that you should try to mount it at the same height or lower for oil drain back and to keep it so it all drains out in the pan
