Roof Racks

I got one on my 2000. I dont think I'd put the spare up there.
The spare is pretty heavy. The roof rack better be strudy and bolted down good. Also the wind resistance would awfect your gas mileage.

Wow.. that looks great!! what do you find yourself using that for? i do alot of camping and 4 wheeling..

Also,

Did you have to add a track system like ontop of a mini van or SUV or did you bolt the thing down directly?

Well when we go Quad,Bike riding, and camping. The bikes, fuel, and fire wood take up the whole truck bed. I try to load all the light gear like sleeping bags tents and luggage on the roof. I also have my lights mounted on the rack.

I also have a full size spare tire but sometimes there's just no room. So, I carry a small compressure and tire plug kit just in case.

One of thease days I'am gonna make a tire carrier for the rear bumper. Since I dont want to carry that big *** tire around all the time. I was thinking of something that mounts to the reciver hitch and is removable.

My rack is screwd straight to the roof. I used sheet metal screws and silicone. I would have preferd to bolt it straight through the roof with nuts and bolts! But that ment removing the headliner.

To mount a heavy spare on the rack. The rack would have to bolted straight through the roof.

Yakima rack

I have one on my truck and I use it mainly for my yaks (Kayaks) the whole system is from Yakima. I used their rail system that uses their special screw mounts that helps seals a way water. You then buy what ever mount you want to be up there. You can place skies, kayak, baskets, bike racks up there.I dont have any pictures at the moment but maybe i can get some this weekend. Since I pull a fifth wheel,I also wanted to bring by yaks along for some fun when we go to the mountains and that was about the only way I was able to transport them. I also put these rails on top of my bed rails so that when I am not pulling I can mount my yaks, bikes, skies in a lower position.I have also been thinking about buying one of their enclosed box,I believe its called a rocket(?) to store extra gear and have it secured from prying eyes......But I would put no tire up there.

That rack in the link you posted is made by defender, I think there the best looking rack made, I looked at them in person at SEMA. I want one as well for some lights and possibly a spare or whatever else. I might have to give in and order one.
