E89e-6015-ad

I have a sand rail with a Cortina engine in it. I am trying to replace it with a 2.3L. I bought a short block with an engine number E89E-6015-AD stamped on it. I believe it is a '89 block, but what do the rest of the digits mean?
Also, I want to set this engine up to be as simple as possible. Can I have it fitted with a regular distributor, and carburetor?

Thanks,
Universal D

Welcome aboard UD!

If you don't get a response soon, try the Ranger forums. There is plenty of knowledge and helpful people here.

The '89 blocks can be set up with normal aspiration and regular / electronic (Duraspark II) distributors. You can even buy an aftermarket intake or find a carb intake from a junkyard, etc. You'd probably have to use at least an '81-'84 head and intake manifold for carbureted setup:

Hope this helps
