A quick check of Consumer Reports data for the 2007 Edge show no tranny problems with FWD Edge but the AWD Edge does have a black mark for "minor" transmission. Minor tranny repair is defined by CR as "Transmission, minor. Gear selector or linkage, coolers and lines, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, hydraulics (clutch master or slave cylinder)."
Millwood,
I have a 07 Edge I can honestly say it's been problem free. Hands down the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. I don't have the roof though. That was the only issue I recall them ever having with the vehicle, exactly what it was I don't know. If you want to pm me the VIN I might be able to run an OASIS for you and let you know what has been done to vehicle

I'm going to hit 15,000 miles on my 07 MKX (bought new in 6/08)this weekend. So far I've have had the guide rail on the vista roof replaced- it snapped when opening it one time. I think sitting around for a year dried whatever lube might have been up there. Also had the roof rattle- headliner actually. 3 of the 4 Edges + the 1 MKX I drove had some sort of rattle in the headliner. Had the headliner replaced at 8k. Still exhibits some rattle but I isolated the rattle to the plastic cover for the front roll-up screen. There is some Velcro that doesn't stick well. Every time the screen is opened the cover comes loose and rattles over any kind of bump. I can reach back to the front part of the rear roof glass and tap it up and it sticks until the next time I open the screen. I'm hesitant to have the dealer fix it again as they left black hand prints over every cloth part of the interior and all over the new headliner.
Prior to having the headliner replaced the first time I found a rattle in the back part of the headliner that would go away by pushing up in the area behind the rear seats. Also the cover for the screen was loose the last time too.
The power transfer unit was replaced due to leaking @ 12k. The leak was hitting exhaust and causing the vehicle to smoke at stop lights- usually after driving on the freeway.
The wife and I will be taking it to Death Valley(1k round trip) next weekend and look forward to getting it out for a real road trip. Heated/cooled seat are a definite winner and the vista roof is sweet. Overall a very nice vehicle. Although the cream colored interior was probably a mistake for me as I like my vehicles kept really clean. Went straight from the dealer to the auto parts store and picked up some mats.
