glasspacks or not
I own a 1993 f150 flare side. I bought a set of flowtech long tubes and when we put them on, the flange on the passenger side was hitting the tranny pan(4 speed auto), so I ordered a pair of flowtech shortys. I put them on and bolted them up to the factory y-pipe. It has a 2 to 1 box and then goes into a cat. It has a 2 1/4" tailpipe. I was wanting to keep the cat on to keep it legal. The stock muffler isn't giving me near the tone or volume I was looking for. I was wondering what everybody thought about glasspacks.

Glass packs are good, and cheap. That ought to do the trick. If not, look into the small case baffled muffler direction. Something like Flowmaster, or a cheap knock off.
Lastly, stay away from Magnaflow. I had one installed on our Escape and I hate it. It's straight thru, cost a good bit of money and doesn't sound much better than stock. I did feel a good bit of power difference though.
Go glass packs or baffled.

Yeah with the catys it will knock off quiete a bit of sound down. We are in the process of minding out what's wrong with my truck. ANyways the exhaust is cut off and it only has the pre-cat and the cat on it and it sounds kind alike an old 70's-80's chevy exhaust tone.
as for the mufflers yeah go with the glasspack and see how you like it and if not you havent wasted much money adn if you want a good muffler go on and spend the money on whatever muffler you want like flowmaster, magnaflow, ect. sorry fot the long post!

When we bought our F250, the exhaust was cut off after the cat. I want to replace it with a quiet setup eventually, I hate loud exhausts. Except on my bike. My busa sounds good with its R77 with the silencer pulled.
If I had to do it though, I'd get rid of the cats and go with a chambered muffler. Sounds better than any glasspack I've ever heard. Glasspacks just droooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooone.... .....

The drone inside the cab is also related to the position of the muffler and cat or resonator in the system. The exhaust I built last year with the Flowmaster Super44 was almost louder inside than it was out with the muffler positioned near the back axle. I move it about 3 feet closer to the front and the drone completely disappeared.
