New Purchase and New Guy

Well guys i just picked a 87 F-150 4X4 4 or 5 spd.(?)up off of Ebay. It supposedly only has 95k and is pretty solid for its age. This will be my fourth F-150 ive owned. Ive had a 81 4X4 w/300 4 spd. OD, 82 4X4 w/300 4 spd. Granny, and a 87 4X4 AOD. Im looking forward to slowly restoring and tinkering with this. Its gonna be my little project. A reason to go to the garage. My main questions are what kind of manual transmissions will the 87s have and what are the specs on the motor and drivetrain? Im trying to learn as much about these trucks as possible. Im also looking forward to posting and learning from this site.

Congrats on your '87 purshase! I'd love to own an '87 Stepside. All years by Ford are good years.

I can only help you with one question you had. 300 I6 specs;

EFI 300;

145 HP @ 3,200 RPM.
260 TQ @ 2,000 RPM.
4'' bore / 3.98'' stroke.

Carb'd 300 is about the same, minus 40 HP, give or take. The TQ is about the same. I like the 300, it's pretty tough.

Thanks man i really seem to like these older trucks. I did forget to mention its a 302 EFI. It also has a Granny 4 Spd. From what i can tell it needs a little body work here and there, but overall solid. I need a passenger side door and fender to make this thing almost perfect. Any body got a door and a fender?

Sorry, I thought you asked for 300 I6 specs?

302 EFI;

180 HP 270 Tq. I forgot when the 302 makes it's power.

Wikipidia isn't concrete but I do use it for engine specs. Other guys on here will know for sure what your 302 puts out.

Take some pictures of your truck!

Congrats and welcome! In my mind, the highlight of the 80-96 era trucks is the 4x4 configuration. Damned near bulletproof IMO. To me, going into 4wd should be a manual and very deliberate sequence. Ford decided to go the way of GM and make the '97-current F-150's a push button operation.

If you buy body panels and doors from a catelog, the lowest price always means cheap quailty. Your truck was built with quality parts and should be repaired as such. Good luck!

Tim
