Transmission issue, please help
94, f150, supercab, 4.9, E4OD, 31x10.5, 150,000 miles
Ok here is what is going on.
When driving on the highway 55-60 mph, up hill, the trans is acting abnormal.
It will act like it want to shift but doesn't, like it is popping into netral and
right back. it only seem to do it under a load.
turning OD switch on and off doesn't seem to make a difference.
If I take it easy and take back roads it doesn't do it.
I can make it happen by accelerating hard at any
speed. It seems to happen in all gears but I haven't
tried to force it much to avoid total melt down.
I drained the pan and TC and replaced about 13 quarts.
Did not inprove after fluid change.
Am I looking at new TC or a rebuild tranny of something else?

Sounds like a sensor gone bad, or maybe a misadjusted detent cable. Then again the tranny may need a rebuild, I would call a transmission shop and let them know the problem. Aamco will diagnose it for free I believe.

Sounds like what Fords calls " false Nuetral". Usually related to the MPLS. Sometimes this switch gets corrosion in the connections going to the switch or the switch gets moisture in it and causes eratic shifting.
Personally I would not let AAmco any where near any vehicle I owned, and the E4od doesn't have a detent cable.
If you have a tranny shifting funny, and you take it to a tranny shop they have to first consider it to be a tranny problem. Many shiffing problems with the E4OD are electrical problems not tranny internal problems.
I have a old time Mom and Pop tranny shop in the neighborhood. Talked to their son, now in his 50's. He grew up working in this shop. He said more than once he has pissed poeple off by telling them he would not rebuild their E4od until they took it to an auto electrical specialist he recommends. He said at least 1/2 the time they are trying to get one rebuilt, it is not a tranny problem and they find it a wiring or sensor problem.
