My '76 F150 Trailer Special
Hello from Michigan! Nice site you got here! I came across it more than ten times on one of my Google rampages for parts.
I own a 1976 F150 Ranger XLT Trailer Special. 460 under the hood, C6 with trans cooler, 9" rearend with 3.00 gears, cruise control, A/C, and power brakes and steering.
I'm in the middle of working on the interior. Hopefully next year I'll have enough money to do a good engine rebuild and block sand the body down and paint it.
I'm having some trouble finding the trailer special emblems for it so if you happen to have two you are willing to sell, please send me a message and name your price.
As you can see I also need also need the correct year tailgate with the trim.

1973/79 Trailer Special Emblems
Welcome to FTE
There are three different Trailer Special emblems.
2) D3TZ16720Y .. 1973 only / Obsolete
2) D4TZ16720F .. 1974/76 only / Obsolete
Both of these are mounted on the cab.
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any new originals.
-------------------------------------------------------------
1) D6UZ1142528A .. 1977/79 / Obsolete
Mounts on the tailgate.
This same nameplate was also used on 1976/79 Econolines & 1978/79 Bronco's.
Dale King Obsolete Parts in Liberty KY has one: 606-787-5031.
Ed Bennett Ford Parts in Lebanon PA has one: 717-272-8762.
Green Sales Co. in Cincinnati OH has one: 800-543-4959.
Dennis Carpenter in Concord NC has 22 (these are NOS originals, not repro's): 704-786-8139.
AFAIK, no one is reproducing any of the Trailer Special emblems.
--------------------------------------------------------------
All the 1973/79 F100/350 Styleside Pickups use the same tailgate.
The one you have is off a 1967/72 F100/350 Styleside (also fits 1964/66 F100/250's), and is very hard to find, so you won't have too much trouble getting rid of it.
Here in LA LA Land, nice condition used 1973/79 tailgates are fairly EZ to find, while 1967/72's are almost impossible to find in any condition.

Thanks guys!
Hey numberdummy, are the phone numbers you gave me for the red white and blue tailgate emblems? The emblems I need go on the quarter panels under the F150 emblems. I'll probably have to do some junk yard scavenging to get those I take it! And thanks for the info on the tailgate - I just hope I can find a tailgate with the cargo cleats on it!
I believe the Trailer Special is different from the standard models because:
a) the big 460 and C6 engine and trans package
b) the trans cooler
c) cruise control
d) cargo cleats on the bedsides and tailgate
e) factory installed trailer wiring harness
The body is Bahama Blue and the roof is Wimbledon White. The rims are 15" Eagle Alloys that I bought off a buddy for $75 and the tires are Coursers with taller sidewalls in the back and smaller ones in the front for some rake action If you want to know dimensions let me know and I'll post them.
Of course, being an Arizona truck the steering wheel is cracked in multiple spots. Finding an original cruise steering wheel is a major pain in the nuts. All the repro companies have are the standard non-cruse wheels and horn pads. So my plan is to buy a Grant steering wheel and fabricate a gauge panel under the ashtray with an accessory vacuum gauge and rocker switches wired to the cruise control. Bad idea? Good idea?
If you're looking for any certain parts, I'll be putting a post in the wanted/for sale section.
