PCV Valve wont screw into valve cover HELP!

On my 03 Ranger 4x4 4.0 liter V6 the pvc valve fell out and it wont screw back in. It is the 1/4 turn type but i dont feel a nub inside the valve cover that would catch the threads on the PCV valve. Is there a piece that is missing or will i have to replace the valve cover. I dont know what happened to it but could smell oil burning and followed the leak to the pcv valve and discovered this. I ordered a replacement PCV valve and it is identical to the original one. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Well I'll see if I can get the ball rolling.

If this puppy has an extended warranty, or the part falls under the emissions warranty, make it the Dealers/Fords problem.

It kinda sounds like the molded piece that goes into the valve cover, into which the PCV valve fits, is the culprit.

Your Ford Dealer's parts department should be able to call up a exploded valve cover assy pictorial, on the computer.

Sounds like part of it may have broken off & is laying loose under the valve cover. If so, I'd pull that puppy & have a look see pronto!!!!

Let us know what you find.
