So I am doing some routine maint on the truck, decide to replace PCV, S belt, filters...
Called the local ford parts guy, he said the PCV is part of (not part on) the valve cover, and I would have to replace the valve cover to repalce PCV?
This sound right?
I don't know, the online Ford parts website that Ed (FTE/PARTS-GUY) used to sell for shows a $21 PCV valve, selling for $10.97. Not a valve cover, just the valve for 2005-2006.
The PCV valve usually just sits in a rubber grommet in the valve cover. Any black hoses running to the valve cover that you can pull out easily?
Same as JKBrad, I even pulled one apart to see if it was inside the black hose/elbo, Nope.
Owners manual says to replace as needed, no part number, see dealer for specific part?
Also found out ford does not flush the transmission or replace internal filter with there transmission service. Just replace remote filter, drain pan, and refill, for $225. And they wonder why people go after market/non dealer service.

Yeah, I found that out too. I had them do it though just in case a warranty issue arrises before I hit 60k miles. When it hits 70k, I'll take it to my trusted local guy for a full flush and filter change. Hopefully a fully synthetic, grp 4, Mercon SP rated ATF will be out by then.
Well, I dropped by my local dealer's parts dept today. The PCV valve is in/under the left (driver's side) cam cover. The cover has to be removed to service it. The parts counter guy didn't know why that was. Next time the service bays look slow, I'll stop and ask one of those guys what the deal is with that set up.
Yeah. Weird isn't it. I can't think of any reason for it.
Maybe Johnny knows?
If I can get my wife out of the truck-I'll have a look. She's driving my truck around since the A/C in her Navi is dead right now. Never have looked at it in detail, but I'm pretty sure that Ford didn't build it where the cam cover has to be removed to service that.
JL
I wonder if it's because, first, they hardly ever go bad, or second, that the possibility of it coming loose or leaking is greater than the need to service it easily?
I wonder if it's covered under the extended emissions warranty?
The PCV IS in the valve/cam cover. The 3v 4.6 and 5.4 are built the same way. It is not servicable even with the valve cover removed. The best you can do if you really feel the need, is to remove the valve cover and flush clean solvent through it. Get it as clean as possible, make sure all the solvent is out of it, clean and dry then reinstall it.
Any more input on the PCV if anyone has done this...and is it worth doing at all? I also traced all the hoses to just open attachments to the valve covers and behind the throttle body there is a connection with two hoses running to it which have antifreeze going to them..
Motorcraft does not list a PCV valve for the 3V V10. At least I cannot find it and the diagrams do not show it. Just valve covers and missc PCV hoses. From what I see you have to either clean the PCV valve you have or buy a new valve/cam cover assembly.
