Has anyone got any ideas on painting a set of old pre 50s truck tags. So they will almost look orginal. Last set I had done was from a sign painter. Its hard, unless you have a steady hand or a fifth to drink. Old trucks just don't look correct, without the orginal tags. I am good with painting trucks, but not tags. Tell us your ideas or ways you have done it.

What I would do is to spray the whole tag the color you wanted it. Then get a short nap roller, dip it in the paint, roll it on cardboard or paper to remove most of the excess paint. Then lightly roll it over the plate as to paint the lettering and boarder without running down on the plate itself. It will take several coats with the roller, but it will look good when finished. This is how I did some about 10 years ago.
