Truck won't start in cold

Won't start in cold ...but after I crank it it looks like smoke comes out the pipe for several minutes, I had to plug in the block warmer and wait and it fired right up.

It does smoke some when you first start it, smells like raw fuel.

Is this for your 93?

If so you need to go to the IDI forum....here:
Pre-Power Stroke Diesel (7.3L IDI & 6.9L) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

BTW: It's got to be in the glow plug system IMO

Do yourself a favor and buy one of those big beefy Glow plug relays and intall it. You won't have anymore problems........I had this problem for 2-3 years ago and kept going to ford.........they could never fix it.........I finally bought the big GPR put it in and no more problems..............gjoing on my 3rd year with it now.

Really funny ford just doens't do this when one comes in for repair. Go figure.

Thanks for fixing your signature to reflect 97
instead of 93.

This one is for a 2002 It mounts a little differently
but the GPR is the same.
Welcome to guzzle's Stancor GPR replacement Mod Web Page

You won't be sorry if you change out the part..........I have a 96 and it has made all the difference in the world..........The GPR is located on top of your engine but you have to take your starship (as some of the guys call it) to get to it............very simple though.........you can do this in a 20 minutes. I can't tell you how frustrating it was to go out in cold weather and try to start my truck without having it plugged in.............and then take to Ford multitple times only to find out on this site there was a simple one time fix.

This website is a godsend and the best for answering questions of all the sites I've been on........
