New X owner - How to extend telescoping mirrors
Hey all,
New to Excursion ownership (I've had two Explorers, one Expedition, and several other Fords, but never the beast). I recently purchased a 2001 Diesel 7.3 4x4 that's in really nice condition, and am in the process of building my Biodiesel processor (should be making fuel by this weekend!)
Two questions I have:
1- How do I 'extend' my telescoping side mirrors on the vehicle? I believe they extend, based on pictures I saw of them both 'in' and 'out' on the vehicle before I purchased it. I've looked for some switch/button but haven't found anything. I have a trailer I'll be towing, and would like to be able to extend them for my trip
2 - Are there any major things I should be watching out for, with this vehicle? Any weak points to be aware of, or maintenance I need to be sure to complete?
As an aside, I don't go 4 banging much, and any mods that I do will likely be to increase MPG, lifespan of the vehicle, or possibly give it a little more torque for towing. For the most part, this will be a family commuter (I have a family of 6 and needed a (bio)diesel for everyone).
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to club!
1 - Pull the mirrors stright out to enxtend them.
2- If you'er gonna be towing you may want ot look at beefing up the suspension. Some here have done a spring swap with a F350 and some (like me) went with the RoadMaster Active Suspension - just search and read. Also, check and see if you have Load Range E tires - helps with towing.
The door actuators will get weak and probably stop working - there is a easy/cheap fix (search).
Otherwise you have the 2nd best X version on the road (the V10 is number 1 of course)
You dont' say where you're from - but in July we'll have the 2nd Annual Excursion Diversion in Gatlinburg, TN - more info will follow later.
