Anyone try Mobil 1 Advance Fuel Economy?

I was at Pep Boys and I figured that Ide give it a try. It was only $.10 more than what I usually get. Its 0w-20 but is suppost to act like a 5w-20. At this point, ill try anything to save $ on gas. Heres a link for anyone who hasnt seen it yet.

"Potential 2% improvement in MPG"

So instead of getting 17 mpg, I would get 17.34 mpg...

Why NOT??? Maybe because incorrect grade oils can destroy your engine!!!

Don't get me wrong, most of the problems people have are when they insist the manufacturer is wrong and swear they know what's best for their engine with HEAVIER weight oils than specified.

The problem with 0W-XX oils is that they are gonna run very thin when cold, thinner than specified for the engine. Could hurt nothing, or could burn up the motor. Not likely, I admit, but I am NOT going to mess with the proven 5w-20 oil.

The biggest reason I wouldn't mess with oil weights on these trucks is the Variable Cam timing relies exclusively on oil pressure to actuate the cam phasers. If the oil pressure isn't high enough to control the cam phasers, then they can go wildly out of control andvancing and retarding the cam timing. This can cause piston to valve contact, or just as badly, can cause the pin that locates the cam gear on the cam to fail, or the keyway to wear and catastrophic damage is the result either way.

The same think happens in the Mustang world with the 3v's when you put a heavier valve spring in. The VCT system becomes unable to properly actuate the cam phasers.

I agree. With problems like cam chain tensioner leak down, cam phaser malfunction, 5w30 should be the only grade to use. Brand? Pick your poison.

I have posted it many times before, if the engine requires 5/20 or whatever that is what should be used.
