I was wondering if someone could help me....I purchased a 2007 f150 salvage truck and had it completely repaired by a technical education center near my home last year.(No warranty on truck) ...Truck ran great all year then recently having electrical problems....Its not huge, but occasionally when I use headlights then hit the brakes the lights slightly dim and my stereo cuts out temporally then comes back on....very frustrating as this happens often....Not sure how to troubleshoot this...any ideas would be greatly appreciated....Thanks
Sounds to me like low voltage, which could be caused by a variety of things.
First to come to mind is a weak alternator. Otherwise, you probably have a short somewhere, where a wire is shorting to ground...Check your lights to see if they are all working...see if any seem to be acting funny.
If not, I'd start tracing wires related to your brake lights, including all wires that have anything to do with your brake switch.....
I agree with Crazy001. When he says check your lights I think he means the break lights themselves. Are they actualy comming on. Also check your ground connections from the battery to the engine and chassis.
I'd be tempted to install a temporary cab to frame ground and see if problem still occurs. If so you could eliminate the cab ground. You could possibly use jumper cables, just make sure you clean where you attach. Also look for any wires/loom getting pinched by brake pedal mechanism. Good Luck.
Got it worked out today I think.....It was the alternator cable to the battery....at the battery terminal...it worked loose then shorted out the end...I replaced the end and had to drill out the bolt on the terminal and put a new one....so far so good.....Thanks for all your help......
