I haave a 47 ford that came with a strieght 6 and a 3 on the floor and my father had a 50 with a flat head V-8 and a 3 on the floor. There was also 3 on the tree available. That era was also available with a 4 spd. If HD means heavy duty it is most likely a 4 spd with 1st as a grany gear which was also normal. a lot of people discribe that trany as a 3 spd with a grany gear because normally you would start in second unless there is a heavy load a a need for low end low rpm power.

A heavy duty three speed was also available. I ran one in my 49 F-1 after breaking the standard three speed several times. My memory is that it had the 2-3 syncro but square cut gears at least in 1st and reverse.
Note: the 49 was running a 56 Buick nailhead back then-too much for the stock regular duty 3 speed.

None of them are "all" synchro'd. The 3-sp's are synchro'd on 2nd and 3rd only. The 4-sp shown is not at all synchro'd.
I have been told since I posted that HD 3-sp's installed in F-1's used the LD rear retainer, but the middle retainer in F-2's. That retainer allows use of the e-brake on the driveshaft.
