spark plugs

Do all 5.4's have a problem with blowing spark plugs out of the head. I have 170k on mine and have started thinking about finding another 5.4 to put in there. I just want to know if there is a specific year i should look for?

I would say most have the potential if it happening.

Look into an 03 that has the head fix via 8 threads instead of 4......or better yet put a lightning engine in there for some real power.

Dan, you got a 10 year old truck with 170k miles on it and no problem. You havae been good so far. Its something to think about, but the majority of trucks dont have the problem. When you change plug, be careful, use the correct torque, clean the area before removal and the threads when appart, and yo should be o.k. the percentage of trucks with this problem is minimal.

All of them up to some time in '03 have 4 threads, L's included. Even the 8's can spit but it is less likely. Mine didn't spit until after 200K miles and 3 plug changes. I don't think it is worth replacing an engine because you are worried about it. If anything just replace the heads but it is a 50/50 chance that it will be a cheap $200 fix if a front plug blows or an expensive $500+ fix if a rear goes.

All 2-valve Tritons have this issue. Even if the plug blows out, its not the end of the world.
All you need to do is tap the hole and install a helicoil and it should never blow out again.

X2^^ They want $500 to fix 1 spark plug, and 1 new coil. What do dealers usually charge?
