powerstroke newbie with drivetrain interchange ?'s

Hey I'm new to the forum My name is Roy and I recently purchased a 95 f-450 tow truck that I'm putting back together the truck needs to have the auto trans replaced I happen to work for a boneyard and can buy both a tranny and a spare engine from a 1997 e-350 van for a steal my question is would the motor and trans from the 97 e-350 work with my 95 f-450 I do realize I would need to swap the tailshaft from the trans to the new one for the driveshaft and e-brake to work

Yes the trans can interchange but I am not sure if just changing the tail housing will be that simple. On a 2wd to 4wd swap the trans must be disassembled because the shaft is different as well. I am just not sure on the 450's parking brake. I don't recall if that bolts up to a 4wd tail housing or how that works. Can you snap a picture of the tail housing and brake assembly? PS: welcome to FTE!

The "F" and "E" series have different crossmembers so the oilpan and oil coolers are different, but the "F" stuff can be swapped onto the "E" engine. The 97 might have splitshot injectors, if it does you'll have to use the PCM from the van and even if you dont need it you should do it anyhow because it will have better torque convertor control and glow plug logic.

If he uses the PCM from the van doesn't he need the throttle pedal assembly as well?
I know they are different and it just threw a flag up.

Welcome to FTE

The TPS should be fine. The only difference is the mounting for the E-body
