Aeronautical radio

my buddy has a 77 f-150 and his am/fm ford radio says Aeronautical on the top lens does anyone know what that was about? the radio looks identical to my 78 radio but does not say Aeronautical on it.

That's not a Ford item unless Ford teamed up with NASA in '77 which i highly doubt. lol

My 77 F150 had the same type of radio in it when bought it 2-3 years ago, but was not original to the truck. I posted a question about it on this forum quite a while back w/ pictures and was told the radio came out of a Ford car, but I can't remember which car(s). The original radio was just an AM radio with a single dash speaker from the factory.

I'm pretty sure that the Aeronautical radios were available in trucks. I used to have a 1978 F150 Lariat that still had the original AM/FM radio in it when I bought it, and it was an Aeronautical Ford radio.

It is a Ford term, however I don't know the technical details of what it is. I've seen it on numerous late 70's\early 80's stock Ford radios.
