Question Thermostat

Hello
I just went to change my thermostat in my 2001 F250 V10 and bought a 195 degree. When I pulled the one out of the truck it had a 185 degree in it. According to the parts store 195 was from the factory is this true. Also wondering if I put the new 195 in if I need to have anything changed in the computer or will it just work fine...
Thanks

I am under the understanding that fords don't like low temp thermostats. The computer can read too low coolant temps as not warming up and stay in open loop operation. I don't think the computer will notice the 10 degrees warmer, and you should have stock mechanical fans so it will not harm the cooling system.

The OEM stat is a 185. I put a 180 in mine not long ago. The OEM programming sees approx 140 degrees as warm operation and time to go into closed loop,so there's no t-stat out there made that'll make it run cold enough to stay on cold operation closed loop.

My OEM stat is a 195. Pulled it once, it's definitely a 195.

I recently had my autotap on my V10 and it went into closed loop very soon after startup, like at around 120 degrees. Have to re-check that, but I do remember it clearly.

Mine is very clearly marked 185, same as the other V10's I've worked on/around.

You forget, you have a 3-valve

Did it ever get the cross-over modification done?

What's even crazier is, Motorcraft shows a 190 degree 'stat for '98-08 V10's, and other places show the same Motorcraft part as being for all V10's from '98-08.

Now I gotta look again and see what's in that box I have... darn.

There's a TSB for the V10 for the coolant crossover in the front of the intake because of a false overheat.

I think they install another 'stat with it. Yup...

06-21-15***MIL ON - DTC P1285 / P1299 - 5.4L 3V / 6.8L 3V - FALSE OVERHEAT

7C3Z-8575-A - Can't figure out what it is though.

To my knowledge,it's never been done on this truck-It didn't show up under the OASIS report anyway.
