Injectors or IDM?

In the last month i have replaced Cam sensor, IPR, Fuel lift pump, ICP sensor.I have cleaned the ebp tube, and just gone done pulling valve covers to check for uvch connections. All connection seem o.k. and I've traced all wires and haven't found anything.
Symptoms: Starts beatifully when cold and idles fine. Does have lack of power and seems to have a miss. No codes are being thrown. As it warms up the idle fluctuates between 570 & 680, up and down up and down. Really don't want to go to the stealership, but I'm thinking I might have to for a better test. Only have an edge programmer to pull codes. Is there a test that can be done on the IDM? What computer (or software) is needed to do an injector buzz test, and or cylinder contribution test?

You need a scanner. Best bet would see if a friend has one but if not then you will probly have to go to a shop to get it looked at. IF I had to take my truck to a shop it would be a Diesel only shop because idont trust the stealerships around here. Most have UTI grad students who dont know much about Diesels. Wait and im sure someone will have some better Info for you. Any other problems with the truck?

Yea. I pulled valve covers. But haven't yet run engine with them off. Also, once engine is warm, I can give it fuel while in park(about 2000 rpm)and let off, usually she will die. But starts right back up

When warm ,,look for oil bubling up from the base of an injector or two ....

You may be able to isolate which side by unplugging on valve cover plugs at a time ,,,one of them won't have much affect on the way it runs ,,thats where I would look first ,,,

Since the VC's are off i would pull the coils and check
the poppet air gap (stone cold) on the inj's. Also check the poppet screw if tight.
Min air gap under the plate is .0015
Scan test would save you some time.

I vote for that new ava Rick! Got beans!

Also, would it be unwise to pull my IDM and open it up to look for any problems, or would I be creating more problems?

Nope don't do that. Even if there were a problem in there you wouldn't find it. I have tried on one and didn't see a thing. A Buzz test with a scanner would tell you more. But that's probably not an issue
