6 disc radio with "phone" button

I have a 2005 F250XL that I previsouly installed a Ford 6 disc cd changer and added the rear speakers. I saw today a 2008 model that has a "phone icon" button. When you press the button, it says something like "no phone". It seems like it would be possible to have a bluetooth connection to my cell phone. Is this correct? How does it work?

My radio from a 2005 model has a "phone icon with the word mute" When I press the button, it just mutes the radio. Hopefully the 2008 model works with a bluetooth phone. Will the 2008 plug and play in my truck??

Thanks for any replys. John

I would get something like Mito's blue tooth system. I would suspect the radio you have has a pinout that you trigger to mute it. For less than half the price of a 2008 6disc headunit, you can get a hands free bluetooth and quite possibly mute the radio with one button.

I doubt the plug is the same, and I'd bet there are issues in getting all of the features of the 08 radio to work in an 05 truck.

Thanks ReAX. I was looking on ebay and have seen the 2008 stock head units for less than $100. I like the look of having the Ford radio system, but it may not be possible. I have not heard of "Mito", is it a new head unit? John

No, they make integration parts. Mirrors with compasses and temp displays, mirrors with video monitors, Muth Mirrors and a lot of other parts. BlueConnect Products

This is interface I was thinking about. Mount it in the headliner, run a few wires, and your ready to go.

Can anybody explain the operation of the "phone button" on the 2008 stock 6 disc radio? I was hoping that it allows a bluetooth phone to be paired to the radio and to take a call, you press the "phone button" on the radio. Is this true????? How does it work?

Thanks ReAX I will look at there website, but I was hoping to be able to use the 2008 radio.

John

I am just curious about this also.

The Single disk player also has this button on it, and when pressed mine brings up the "No Phone" message.

Unlike the "No Aux Audio" fix that I found, the workshop manual makes no mention of a "Phone" parameter that can be enabled/disabled.

I looked the 2008 radio in a vehivle at the dealer lot the other day and the salesman told me the radio could be paired to my bluetooth phone. I don't think he really knew, just told me what I wanted to hear. Any others out there with a 2008 Ford radio have / know about this feature? John

No Super Duty radio has bluetooth built in at this time. The phone button is just for working with Fords add on Mobile-ease phone system. You should be able to find a Mobile-ease system to work with your radio, no reason to upgrade to the 2008 radio for it.

The Ford/Microsoft SYNC system does have bluetooth built in, but it isn't available in the Super Duty yet (rumor is that it will be available in the 2009 though).

Thanks for the info Beerstalker. So if I understand correctly, the phone button is to answer a call if you have the moble ease system installed. John

The mobile ease system most likely has a wire that runs to the radio to trip the switch internally when you answer or dial out. If it does, then you can wire up most any kit to it.

Yes, the mobile ease phone system plugs into the back of the radio. When you hit the phone button it will answer the call and play the sound over the radio. At least that is how I think it works, I haven't known anyone that used it so I can't say for sure.

no, mobile ease will not work with the phone button on the 08. I have the kit and it comes with its own control that you have to use.

If the mobile ease does not work with the phone button, then what does the button do? John

I looked at a 2008 Edge today. It had the phone button. Looked at the owners manual. It said the button was for cell phone use when the SNYC system was installed. The salesman said the button would only mute if there was no SNYC option on the vehicle. John
