I am planning to put a chip in my truck, but I was also wondering if anyone out there had installed a set of under drive pulleys.....if so, do they help.....do they hurt the operation of the air conditioning......what brand is the best......any info would be helpfull.

Also if you know anything about transmissions, please reply to my pervious post "Transmission problems"

Also which is better....the superchip, diablo chip, hypertech chip, or another brand. I want more low end power, better milage, and better shift patterns

I've used Hypertech products in non-Ford applications & I've been extremely happy with them. However I think you're asking for too much...you have a 4.6L OHC engine & you want more low end torque.....no chip or EEPROM reflash can give that to you. OHC engines are weak on the low end by nature.

Most of the 1997 4.6L 4X4s are pretty decent fuel economy wise. What kind of mileage does your truck get currently?

ok, obviously you guys relly haven't use chips. chips are the cheap way to fubar your timing and mess up your fuel to air ratio. the best way to accomplish the powerr you want is switch your gears to 4.56. trust me, I did it and can out run a chipper any day.

I have used Jetchip and Superchips and I prefer the Superchips. I had a Hypertech on my 88 Beretta GT and at the time it was all you could get. They have also come a long way. You can get a Superchips right here at the store. http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/cgi-bin/Web_store/webshop.cgi At the present a chip is probably the best bang for the buck. Gears will out run a chipped truck but are more expensive. For that matter Nitrous will outrun gears, so will a supercharger but we are discussing chips.

your right 100% about a supercharger, but this is f 150, not berrata, ok. It is a well known fact that chips work wonders for cars and small trucks, but we are talking full size trucks here. First hand experience; i ran a Diablo chip for 6 weeks, the results i could get 2-3 more mpg, i reach 60 mph in 8.9 instead of 9.1. top speed was 127 instead of 115.

BUT, after replacing stock gears with 4.56 mpg went up 3-4mpg. top speed went down to 114 0-60 increased dramatically to 7.98. Also my towing ability was greatly increased. towing my boat feels like towing a pinto. the accelaration is awsome, unlike a chip.

Keep in mind, chips are good in cars, but not in full size truck. all chips do is reset your shift points, fuel to air mix, and timing.

"All a chip does is..." Your points are well taken. But I personally have to ? the practicallity of installing 4.56 gears in most applications. If that works for you, fine. I know that for me, Superchip has been great (It blows chevies off the road and takes the Ford V10). Besides, it going to take a lot of gas and towing to justify the gear swap. But then, do you want a stump puller, a SVT Lightning, or do you want a little more peformance for a daily driver? The latter fits me.
