I had a mustang hood scoop, might be an old mach 1, not sure, on my 78 f-150, should be a pic in my gallery of it, looked really nice, it had holes cut in the hood so it actually worked. My friend has on on his 78, he just put the hole in it for the studs, did not cut it out, but his has the turn signals on the back of the scoop, they look really cool. And the scoops match the ridge down the middle of the hood nicely, just cut a little notch out of the back. real clean look to them.

I agree, whats the point of having a scoop if it isnt functional? No offence but if youre putting a scoop ont there make it useful.... but to answer your question, grab a jegs or summit and look at what they have, they have assorted sizes of scoops and cowls... then take it down to a local body shop and have em throw it on... or you can do it yourself with a lil glass and sandpaper, then have a shop shoot it for you.

I have a scoop from a 70 Mercury Cougar Eliminator (personally, I don't think it's original, but NOS), and I had considered putting it on the hood of Buford. I had seen someone else on here that has the same scoop, and it didn't look too bad. The scoop is the same that came on a lot of the Mercury's then...my best guess is roughly the 68-72 Mercury Cougars (Eliminator, 428SCJ, etc.), Cyclones, and Comets.
Anyway, I finally decided against it as it just really wouldn't serve a purpose, and Buford is tall enough that not many cars would notice it anyway. I do think that that particular scoop doesn't look half bad on our trucks, but in the end it wasn't for me. Now, if I went so far as to make it functional, that's an entirely different matter, but wasn't worth the hassle.

Almost anything you use as an adhesive will cause some possible permanent damage to your current hood, so now it's down to if you can afford another hood to play with as you like. The cost of the junkyard hood, scoop and paint all need to be added. Is it still worth the cost to you?
As an aside it seems more time is spent pointing out what doesn't meet some peoples vision of these trucks then answering questions. Another recent thread took this route with several pages of bickering and just a couple useful posts. Not trying to take away from the interaction but slamming people for taken the path less tread doesn't feel right.

Looks like the hood my 71 Torino GT had
In all honesty, the best set-up was the factory air cleaner that drew in cool air from the grill area. The open element air cleaners draw in hot under-hood air which robs power.
Use either a stock air cleaner with a K&N filter in it or a dual snorkel factory air cleaner off of a 82-85 GT Mustang and cut out a cool air spot on the driver side of the core support to match the passenger side.
This has been dyno proven even on todays EFI vehicles.
