my truck's EGR & Oil Cooler went out at 99k miles under warrenty. head's cracked and head gaskets blew at 100k miles OUT OF WARRENTY. cost for that was like 3k for new heads, $800 for Racing Head Gaskets, $500 for ARP Studs, and around 21 hours of labor at $100 an hour. work was done at a diesel shop, not at Ford. if you go with stock stuff it will be cheaper and your heads are probably fine. it's best to get your heads checked for flattness. i had mine flux tested and thats how they found the cracks. if you can afford studs put them in.

Blew head gaskets at 110k miles, got heads machined, gaskets and ARP studs, coast $670. Plus I've had to buy a 250 lb torque wrench for $170. Did the labor for myself, coast $0, could work only on the weekends on it, 2 weekends. No cab off, no engine pull out....
Kepler4 is right, head studs the best mod you can do.

My EGR cooler and headgaskets blew while towing at 35k mi. and that caused the turbo to start sticking the next week before my appt. with the dealer.
I ended up having the EGR cooler, heads, headgaskets, and the turbo replaced, and had a couple of oil leaks fixed under warranty.
They installed ARP headstuds that I bought for an extra hour of labor, so for everything I ended up paying $110. Plus $500 for the ARP's.

Didn't have any issues with either, but did the Hypermax 500, with ARP headstuds, and the EGR delete kit also, didn't like the fact of when it was going to go. Paid for the parts, and the labour for the EGR was 3-4 hundred. Labour for the heads etc. was a "special" deal because I shop there consistently.

I blew the headgaskets at about 20k using sct. I blame it on a canned tune I was using at the time though. For some reason the tune I was running under certian situations would peg my boost gauge at around 40+ psi. I finally had a guy install headstuds and itp's regulated return kit at 41k. Its only got about 2k miles on it so far, but with spartan tunes since the moment I got it back, its running better then ever.

Warped Heads at 200,000km, no warranty. Replaced both heads, eight injectors, both exhaust manifolds, idler pulleys and belt and all gaskets. All stock parts including TTY bolts.
Cost $0.00.
My boss paid the bill and our mechanics did the work. Took six weeks in between other work. But the bill made it worth the wait.
It is my truck but I use it for work every day at about 1500-200 km per week(that is why he did the work for me).
Not bad?
