Just went over 8k miles with my 08 and the engine light came on. It's been on for two days now. It's running pretty much the same but once in a while I notice some different sounds and feelings in the way it drives. Anyway just thought I would share my unhappiness. I will try to take it in on Monday.

Is your truck an early build. Some of the early models needed a reflash becasue the CEL keep comming on. This mostly affect Job 1 and early Job 2 builds.

There is two Ford Bulletins concerning Check Engine Light (CEL) on.
Broadcast message 6954: CEL on, diagnostic Code P2610: This code for internal computer communications may be set during battery cable or battery replacement. disconnecting the battery or computer will not clear this code. it can only be cleared by removing fuse 36 from the engine compartment fuse box for 30 seconds, then reinstalling it. Then clear codes with a scan tool. Restart engine and check for the code. If P2610 returns, continue with normal diagnosis.
Broadcast message 6959: CEL on,diagnostic codes P0342 or P1336: Trucks with engines built before serial number 7602535 at Indianapolis plant or 0428327 at the Huntsville plant may have one of these codes set with no driveability symptoms. If normal diagnostic steps show no problem, replace the camshaft position sensor(CMP) and retest. Part number 8C3Z-12K073-A.
Lastly, I would check PCM codes to see if the above codes are their. The above more or less apply to the earlier trucks. I am not aware of any other CEL Bulletins at the present time.

I am not doing a thing to my truck. But I called the dealer today and he said Ford was haveing problems with CEL coming on and they were working on a fix. He said unless it's acting, sounding or driving strange to not worry about it. WTF? Brand new truck with a CEL and the dealer says leave it? That doesn't make sense to me. I asked him how long for the "fix" from Ford and he said the fourth quarter. Jesus. Thats months away. I am going to call again tomorrow and see what kind of answer I get this time.

I would want to see the "Just drive it" part in writing. If damage is occuring, they would then be on the hook not you for ignoring the warning.
That "just drive it" was BS. I called again and told them that the guy said that and they had no idea. They said bring it in. So I brought it in. It was the EGT sensor. I know what it does but I don't know how it controls various engine functions and fuel delivery. It obviously hurt my mileage because it dropped about 1-2 mpg during the time the engine light was on. Just driving back from the dealership yesterday it went up 0.2 mpg. I know it does not sound like much but the computer has not been reset in over 500 miles and it was only a 15 mile trip back from the dealer. For those of you that pay close attention to these things you know what I mean. For those that don't, basically what it means is that if the computer says I have been getting 11.5 mpg average over the last 500 miles, and I go another 15 miles, I would have to be getting 12-13mpg+ to get the computer to go up even a little bit. Hence the 0.2. Anyway can someone tell me how the EGT sensor controls engine functions?
Thanks
