I ran a 5000 mile trip this year towing a 28' 10K # trailer.

I found without the trailer I get 19+ mpg averaged over flat desert also including up and down the Rocky mountains. average speed around 72 mph.
When the trailer is empty I got 13-14 running around 65-70 mph, yes there were winds involved over the trip but I'd slow down to 55-65 mph.
With a loaded trailer, a guy usually will drive more defensively and slow down some.
I can't find that there would be much difference in the mileage between empty and loaded.

Personally, I like the 6.0 much better than the 6.4 for many reasons, but to each his own.

Fuel is not the only cost. Oil changes, filters, not to mention the upfront cost for the engine. For a daily driver why bother with the diesel. No turbo lag, fast heat in the winter, it can sit for a few weeks with no problem really what is the down side to a gasser?

Just call me a fool because I got the v10. I only to 7K once in a while and for me it works great.

Job 2 truck that I special ordered for the 6 speed manual. Noticed through this forum that most where reporting 1-2 mpg better than auto. Best decision I have made in a while. Really enjoy driving the manual.

Yes, but with a DPF delete and a tuner, the 6.4's eat vetts and stangs for breakfast. Can your v10 do that? Mine can't.

Don't gassers get oil changes and filters? The up front cost is for 200 ft lbs of torque. How about why bother with a gasser? No turbo lag is because you got no turbo. Fast heat in the winter is becuase your engine is making less efficient use of its fuel. Sit for a few weeks? Many of our diesels sit for months without issues.
If diesels aren't cool then why are you checking out this forum?

No offense to the gas engine folks. We all try to justify our choices.

Gas engines are cleaner and don't shear the oil as bad as the diesels so the intervals can be longer. They also hold less oil. Yes they lose peak torque, but with the exception of low end power for towing the higher rpm range yields similar horsepower specs to compensate.

Maybe stock they do... But I can put 2k into the gasser, and have 450 hp or put it into the diesel and be at 600-700. O yeah, the diesel wills till be getting 20mpg whereas the gasser will be getting 7-10.

I'm not going to argue with you the diesel has more headroom for upgrades, but we were talking about a daily driver for non-towing applications and probably few mods.

A 700HP diesel won't be getting 20 MPG, over 500-550 HP, you'll start to loose MPG, and these new trucks even with DPF deletes are only pulling in what? 16-18 MPG? I don't know about you, but I don't think $2000 will get you very far on a 6.4. DPF delete pipe $500-800, then you need to get a tuner, another $200-400. Then you have the custom tunes, different turbo, and bigger injectors you'll need. Not exactly cheap.

But yes, were talking about stock daily driver. A 700HP diesel wouldn't be that great as a daily driver, still need to driven hard once in a while, and really isn't that great for towing either.
