replacement turbo?

replacement turbo?
I was wondering if there are any good turbos that would have similar lag as the stocker with higher boost and better thrust bearings?
I would like to upgrade mine after the intake, exhaust, gauges, chip... you get the idea...
I'm thinking a HX50 might be a little too big. I want it to be able to run decent on stock sticks as well as stage 1's...
throw in the ideas plz!

the d66 has a stock thrust bearing. that sounds like trouble to me if i were to buy stage 2 nozzles after a stage 1 upgrade...

The D66 is rated up to stage 2's. The difference with the D66 is that unequal drive pressures are equaled out with a different compressor and compressor housing. The stock turbo's thrust bearing fails due to high exhuast drive pressure that actually put too much pressure on the shaft pushing it toward the intake side. So the force squeezes the oil out and starts to remove metal. The D66 will be a good option for you. A drop in SD turbo would be as expensive if not more so than the H2E though it might be more drivable.

what kind of boost pressures are we talking about with the d66 Rated to 40 psi
how much is the stock turbo good for? 30
can you get 35 psi out of a stocker if you put enough fuel with it? Yes it will push that plus but not for long and not efficiently
can you put a 99-03 psd turbo on the older trucks? Yes but it takes alot of other parts pedstal, uppipes, downpipe is a bit different, then you need to do something with the intake (add intercooler build a different y-pipe)
would it be any better? Not much. it will spool a bit faster but its not any more durable other than its wastegated so you can control max boost

I am running into the same problem, i want to do a turbo and 2's. But i need the truck to be as relyable as possible, becuase if it breaks down during a snow storm im out 78$ an hour, which adds up pretty quick. So i guess my ? is, is the H2E a BB turbo, and would that make it a much more reliable combo to run. Keeping in mind that i've got a 900lb plow up front and a 5000lb sander in the back. So it works pretty hard with a wet snow.

If your truck is your money maker then a fully built trans that can handle atleast 500 hp (that not where stage 2 and a turbo will take you but...) should be first on your list. Because if you trans is not built its not a question on "if" but of "when" it will grenade and it will be with 12 inch of wet heavy snow on the ground and 12 more hours of driveways and lots to clear.

haha ya that would be my luck. But ya im planning on the tranny this summer. I'm working at a transmission shop so im going to try and talk him into letting me use the lifts and equipment and maybe help with all the parts install. But that is still down the road a month or two, i've got a new bike to pay for first.
