Now What??

I rebuilt the turbo about three months ago. It had lots of play on both sides but had no contact so I went with the stock bearings. Had no choice as I could not get any info on radial play. Was under the hood the other day and found what looks like a leak in the oil seal on the exhaust side of the turbo. Strange thing is I am not getting any smoke out the exhaust. What could this be?

If you right click on the x go to properties and copy and paste the URL in the address bar you can see the pic. Any body know why pics come up as a x? I would really like to be able to post pictures so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks......

Using webshots go to "link to" and then use the direct link, none of the others ever seem to work. when you paste it in "insert image" make sure u clear out the http:// and that should do it.

But as for the real problem with the truck, i have no idea.......

That looks like an oring leak between the turbo or the EBPV solinoid that will not get into your exhaust it will just make a lovely mess all over your ped and in the valley of death

I will have to look into that. Seems strange that oil would creep UP that far. And if you take a close look at the pic there is oil on top. Used new O rings when I did the rebuild.

Any body Know what the thread size is on the solenoid. I would like to remove it and plug it with a set screw. Left hand thread?

As for smoke I do seem to get a Little more than usual on start up will go away after warm up GP's checked out OK..

Did you install a new heat sheild for the seal when you rebuilt the turbo?
The kits do not come with the sheild. The center section could have a crack also.

Removed the heat shield cleaned it up and reinstalled. Didn't think of cracks in the center section. Will look when I take it off. Any body know of a poor mans way to check for cracks that cant be seen?

Sent it in to Ron's turbo for the balance. It was free with the rebuild kit.
