What does 3.9 tons of rock look like?
(So Here is what I am working on at my current job)
This
Scale in 7,820
Scale out 15,840
scale ticket said 3.9 tons
I had about 200 pounds of tools in the bed so 9,600 pounds or so trailer weight. I sat just a little bit below dead level on both truck and trailer with about 2.5 inch's to the bump stops on the truck and 2.0 on the trailer. I had to climb some pretty goods grades on the 20 mile trip back, one of them I would have to say was about 10%-12%, truck cilmbed it easy, held the 45 mile per hour speed limit at 3,700 RPM with no down shifting and O.D off. Nothing like the sound of a V8 at almost 3,700rpm for a half mile
To bad I did not get a picture of the front end loader that loaded me, it was about 20 foot high, and the bucket was the width of the trailer,16 foot. I stopped him before he was completely empty too, probably had almost another ton in him.
Braking was with a ease also with the prodigy set at B.3.
Over all I was really impressed on how the truck did, I would not want to do it every day but for when I need too I am glad I have a F-150.
Here is the second trip I made
Scale in 7,640
Scale out 10,830
scale ticket said 1.5 tons, so about 3 grand of rock.
And A home Depot trip
#56, 60 pound bags of cement, 3,360 pounds
80 retaining wall brick, about 800 pounds

aw shucks...now I wish i had pics of when i loaded my 05 down with 3700 lbs of sand in the bed......in one load....It was right down on the bumpstops.... I'd have never guessed that that little bit of rock was 7000 lbs....
I hauled a whole bed load, even to the rails of gravel about two years ago...the guy sold it by the bucket full...not the weight....I wonder what that weighed in at....It was down on the stops pretty hard as well too....Isn't it fun to overload our pickups... LOL

As far as being overloaded I was no where near of having 3700 pounds of tongue weight/payload as you did, and still had 2.5 till the bump stops....
-The trailer has an 8,200 pound payload (GCWR of 10,000), which I was not exceeding.
-As for my truck I am rated at 9,300 by ford, actual weight came in at 9,600, I was over by 300, but we all know that ford has built in safety in there numbers. I had no intention to overload my truck with rock with I Began the day.....This is actually the very first time I have.
And As far has the rock weighting that much I was shocked myself when I weighted in at 15,840!!, Was not expecting it to be that much, I if did I would have split the two loads more evenly.
Thanks,
I am building and pergola, fire pit, and landscaping with rock around the house

I am amazed at how much a "little" load of rock weighs! Waaay back yonder, I had a Datsun pickup--don't remember what year, but it had drum front brakes--and went to the gravel pit for a load of landscaping rock. I said, just sit it down on the springs, to the operator and I crossed the scales with 2187 lbs of pea gravel in a Datsun. It would not pull itself up my driveway at home. I had to back it in close and wheelbarrow it the rest of the way......

When I get back out there next week I will see if I can get a copy of the scale ticket/receipt from the homeowner.

Dam, That is a sweet trailer......I want one!!
Would have sure been putting it too use these last two weeks, looks like that is exactly what you did Ryan!
I had got another 3 loads of rock/boulders (2"-4") this week at 3 tons each trip. Since they are bigger they really sucked to shovel out!
What does a dump trailer like that run.....5-7 grand?

We've got this dump trailer and it will hold about 5.5 yards of gravel, which comes out to about 10 000+ lbs I think, pulled that load with our old F150 once, it struggled but managed, did need a new pinion seal afterwards though! Next time we loaded up like that my dad borrowed my F350 to pull it! Spun my tires with 14 000lbs of trailer and gravel behind it, made me laugh.
