help me decide (v8,v10,6.0)

I'm in the market for a new(er) 05-07 truck
most likely a 4x4 f250 CC

I could get by just fine with the v8, but my 02 had a v10 and ROCKED, I'm not really worried about the gas mileage difference.

The problem is I cant really find any color combos i like with the v10 (since theryre kinda rare around here)

I dont have a desire to get the diesel, but i LOVE the amarillo pavkage (yellow/ black leather), but with diesel on the rise

I think I might just hold out for a v10, but man, those yelow trucks are sharp.

What would you do?

Had a '99 V-10 and currently drive an '04 V-10. Several hundred thousand miles between them. Never had a spit of trouble out of them! Grew up (many years ago) on a farm, and then was an independent owner op with a Detriot 435 (in the 80s), so I grew to love them, and would love to have another diesel, but it's really hard to justify at the premium you pay plus the high fuel costs, these days, unless you do a LOT of heavy towing and such. Bro has the V-8, no problems there either. If you're picky about colors (I couldn't care less) then make your descision based on color and other options. Just make sure you buy a FORD!

Gas and diesel are both going to be too expensive to drive here in a few months, so get the yellow truck so that it makes a better looking lawn ornament Just kiddin bud, but I won't get rid of mine because of fifteen bucks more a tank over gas. Apparently some guys just can't take the sixty cents to a dollar higher per gallon price. IMO any truck is going to be murder to keep filled up, and in the long run diesel isn't really that much more than gas, especially when it all hits 5+ bucks.

I voted other- I would say get a 7.3L. The higher cost of diesel fuel comes out in the wash when you figure mpg vs. a gasser most times.

Hold out for the V-10 that 'floats your boat'. Ya just don't need the Diesel if you're not towing over 10K, IMHO. The '05 ('06 and up?) and up V-10's have the TorqShift trans too!

People just don't realize that diesel lasts longer than gas and so it makes up for those little $0.40 - $0.50 more a gal. than gas.

I say SEVEN POINT THREE all the way...but that is just me.

$1.10 more in DC metro and $.90 in Northern VA right now. Thats a $30(+/- a few dimes) difference per tank. Pretty huge difference, in the long run.

A lot longer is not 2-3 miles per gal. Plus you paid more for your truck than someone with a gasser.

You knew this would be a no win poll.

If color is the priority, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the diesel. You just can't monetarily justify one thing over the other, especially now a days. So just get what floats your, er, camper!

What about someone looking for a truck else where for you? Like I mentioned, I went all the way out there to get what I wanted because that's where I could find it. Maybe to get what you really want it would be worth reaching out to the FTE community.

Recently bought a used '00 with the V10. I am absolutely blown away at the power when pulling my 5th wheel. I just made my first lengthy trip and averaged 8.2 mpg in all types of terrain and wind. My 96 with a 5.8 only averaged around 7.5 mpg and worked a lot harder to get the job done.

You can get 300k out of a well maintained 5.4l or 6.8l. Besides you can buy a Ford reman 6.8l with a warrenty for under $4k. So I can replace my V10 for darn near the cost of a set of injectors and an oil change on a late model oil burner.
