6spd 1st gear grind
howdy guys, posted this in the clutch, tranny section, but maybe could get some other answers from guys who actually know about their trucks. any help will be appreciated.
i had my clutch replaced at the dealer a week ago. i took it in because it was grinding when i tried putting it in first. They told me it was the clutch. alright, i pay 1700 to get it done, go and pick it up and the truck is still doing the same thing! WTF! they then tell me it is the Synchro, that they would have to drop the tranny down again and replace the synchro. it would be another charge. Anyone else had Ford F them like this.
they did say they would not charge me the labor to drop it and put it back in though. I have bitched a pretty good bit the lady that helped me.
anyone had the 1st gear synchro replaced? know how much this will cost? it seems that my truck has just hit 150k and now things are breaking. knock on wood, the engine stays together.
sweet blog.

Welcome to FTE. I've had a bad experience with a dealer that noted a minor grind between 1st & 2nd on one of my work trucks. It's a long story of how the tranny got in that kind of shape, but the grinding was so bad you had to start in 2nd.
Hopefully you were clear when you took the truck in and they noted the grinding was the reason you took the truck in on your service ticket. If you did, then return to the dealer and speak with the service manager, owner of the dealership, or one of Ford's regional guys. Be polite when you talk to them and explain how the original problem was not fixed. Tell them you don't have a problem with the money you spent, you just want the truck fixed for that, or the money credited toward the proper repair since it was misdiagnosed.
The bad thing about a tranny is you don't know what all may be bad until you get in there. Having a rebuilt tranny put in would be quicker and may not be much more expensive than paying the tech by the hour to dig around looking for bad parts.
Good luck and let us know how this turns out.

thanks.
i was clear. i have the ticket, that states, grinding in first gear. i never mentioned my clutch was giving me problems.
when they told me they needed to replace the clutch, i said sure, as long as that fixes my problem.
now it doesnt and i have to learn new shift points on the new clutch(not a big deal, but i had the other one worked it very well)
to top it off i tried towing my fifth wheel yesterday and cant go L to 1st, i have to go L to 2nd. thats not gonna work.
