I may be wrong on this, and I don't have any of my books with me to check it, I think Ford changed the 351 to the same firing order as the 302 some time in the mid to late 70's if you have a 302 with an old 351 firing order, my thought is somebody put an "old" cam in it. Most cams makers tell you to rewire the 351's to the 302 so they can make one cam to fit all the small blocks.

yes you can convert your distributor to a the different firing order. In the early 80's, Ford changed the 302 from 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8- firing order to 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 (same as the 351) all you will have to do is change the plug wires around on the cap. pretty simple.

Instead of converting to a Duraspark II, slap in a MSD 6A. It's a far better system and you'll get some performance gains as well. While you're converting, put in their distributor. It's a bit pricey, but the difference between the stock and the MSD is amazing. Not a lot of HP gain, but a lot better setup for reliability and consistency.

Question on a 302 that fires like a 351?????

The Windsor was never fired the same as the 302, but some 302s did have the 351 firing order. Specifically the HO motors and any 302 from 94 up. If the 302 is fired like a Windsor, then somebody probably put a 351 cam in it. This would give a higher value lift and longer duration than the 302.

Mass air equipped 5.0L's have the same firing order as 5.8L's and 351m aswell. (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) I believe all HO's have the same firing order as 5.8L's.

Carbed and SD efi 5.0L's and 7.5L's have the same firing order.
